We just got a new puppy from the pound, Julie, and we all though she looked so sweet and cute, like a mini Benji, only prettier with her silky fur and adorable pug face. But boy were we wrong, as after a month or so we realized we had adopted “Rosemary’s Baby” instead.

My wife just called her Evil. But I knew that all we needed to do was to train Julie, as no pound puppy comes with the needed skills to be a responsible and behaved family member.

So I tried this one from my website: Dove's 7 Dog Training Lessons. This package is reasonably priced and gets you 7 videos plus a whole slew of freebies.  Eight other goodies were included with the videos: Dove’s personal email address and seven audio recordings.  I Googled Dove Cresswell and found that her nickname is “Trainer to the Pet Stars” as she has primarily worked in Hollywood, and even trained the animals in the movie “Charlie’s Angels.”

So I began with watching Lesson 1. Puppy House Breaking/Potty Training. It took a few days, but finally, results. No more poop on the carpet and pee on the kitchen tiles. Julie was going to the toilet in her designated place like everyone else was in the house.

My wife was impressed. “How did you do that?” she asked. I ribbed her “I’m an expert now.” She went off to take the kids to school. Good, now I had some more alone time with Julie. Dove explains how important that is – alone time with your dog. So we started working on the techniques found in Video 2. Crate Training. That was scary for me, ‘cause crates look like little prisons, but after watching and listening to what Dove had to say about that, things started to make sense: tough love is what we needed.  I understand that; I have teenagers.

Video 3. Dog Obedience Training was all about just that. Basic commands like Sit, Stay, Down, Wait, etc. all seemed to work like a charm after just a few hours of work on each command using Dove’s advice on how to deliver them.  Julie actually seemed to like the training now. Maybe it was better then being in the crate, I’m not sure about that one. But she seemed happy to have the alone time with me during the training, and as long as I did not overwork her, she responded very well.

We’re planning on working with the rest of the 4 other videos included with Dove's 7 Dog Training Lessons during the next several months. From working with the first 3, I am sure that by the end of the course I will be able to use Bonus #1, Dove’s email, to send her a big thank you note.
